Kenyan Boxers Shine On Day One of Championship

Kenyan boxers ruled the ring on the first day of action at the African Boxing Championship in Congo Brazzaville, with three male pugilists trouncing their opponents to advance to the quarter-finals. The female boxers were granted byes and advanced straight to the semi-finals and are thus assured of medals ( strong and weak bronze at worst). The championship also doubles up as qualifiers for the World Championship, to be held in Hamburg, Germany from Aug 25 to Sep 3rd. Below is a list of results for Monday June 19th, and the draw for Tuesday June 20th:


1. Blackmoses Mathenge
beat Bellassek Abdelkabir (Morocco ) 3-0 in Welterweight. He advances to the quarters.

2. Elly Ajowi beat Aboubacar Yoada ( Ivory Coast ) 3-0 in Light Flyweight. Advances to quarters.

3. Victor Odhiambo Ater beat DaudauEloge Gbessi ( Ivory Coast ) 3-0 in Light Welterweigt. Advances to quarters.

4. Fred Ramogi
lost to Carlos Kalonji ( Ivory Coast ) 3-0. He is out.
